Kejadian luar biasa menggegerkan dunia kedokteran. Seorang ibu yang dipastikan telah meninggal dunia ternyata masih bisa melahirkan bayi mungil dengan sempurna. Berita ini mendadak tersiar kemana-mana dan menjadi bahan perbincangan dii dunia medis.
Adalah Mahmoud Soliman, 29. Ia tak pernah membayangkan bisa menghadapi kesedihan dan kebahagiaan menjadi satu. Istri yang dicintainya, Jayne Soliman, 41, pergi untuk selama-lamanya. Dan sebagai gantinya, ia mendapatkan seorang bayi perempuan cantik yang dilahirkan dari rahim istrinya.
Yang mengharukan, Aya Jayne, demikian nama bayi tersebut, dilahirkan dua hari setelah Jayne dinyatakan meninggal akibat otaknya tidak bisa berfungsi lagi. Berkat bantuan medis Aya bisa dilahirkan dengan selamat.
Sebenarnya kehamilan Jayne tidak bermasalah. Namun diusia kehamilannya yang mencapai 25 minggu, tiba-tiba ia pingsan, setelah mengeluh sakit kepala.
Segera saja Mahmoud melarikannya ke Rumah Sakit John Radcliffe Hospital di Oxford. Namun beberapa jam kemudian, tim dokter menyatakan otak mantan atlet ski es nasional Inggris ini sudah mati.
Tim dokter mencoba membantu jantung Jayne agar tetap berdenyut dengan beragam peralatan. Upaya ini dilakukan agar bayi yang berada di perut Jayne bias tertolong. Jayne diberi dua dosis besar steroid sehingga jantung bayinya bisa berkembang. Dan akhirnya, Aya Jayne pun bisa lahir dengan selamat melalui operasi cesar.
Usai diangkat dari rahim Jayne, Aya sempat diletakkan di pundak ibunya untuk memberi sedikit waktu bagi keduanya untuk bertemu.
Setelah itu Aya langsung dilarikan ke unit perawatan intensif. Sedangkan Mahmoud diberi kesempatan untuk mengucapkan selamat jalan untuk pada istrinya, sebelum akhirnya dokter mematikan peralatan penunjang hidupnya.
“Dokter mengatakan tak ada yang bisa mereka lakukan untuk Jayne. Namun mereka membutuhkannya untuk tetap kuat bagi anak kami yang belum dilahirkan,” kenang Mahmoud.
“Dia sangat mungil, ia pejuang kecil seperti ibunya,” tutur Mahmoud yang tak henti-hentinya menitikkan air matanya saat menggendong putrinya.
Kata Aya berasal dari bahasa Arab yang berarti keajaiban. Itu merupakan nama yang dipilih Jayne saat masih hidup.
“Saat Aya dewasa, akan saya katakan betapa ibunya mencintainya. Akan saya ceritakan semuanya. Ini merupakan keinginan Jayne untuk memiliki bayi dan menjadi ibu yang baik,” ujar Mahmoud.
Jayne merupakan juara ice skating Inggris tahun 1989 dan menduduki peringkat tujuh di dunia.
Ia pernah mengikuti beragam kompetisi internasional sebelum akhirnya menjadi atlet ski profesional. Beberapa tahun terakhir ia menjadi pelatih tamu di Dubai, dan disinilah ia bertemu dengan Mahmoud yang bekerja sebagai IT.
Dua tahun silam ia kembali ke Inggris dengan kehidupan barunya dan menempati rumah di Bracknell, Berks. Jayne yang memiliki nama asli Jayne Campbell ini kemudian bekerja di Bracknell Ice Skating Club.
